How to advertise number plate for sale on Motor Trader?
1. First you need to register a free account on Motor Trader. You can Click here to register. Under "Register an account", fill in your informatin and click register.
2. Login to your account, click create ads, choose number plate and choose the ads package. There are 2 packages available, Normal ads is RM10 and Premium ads is RM60.
3. Preview and submit and proceed with payment.
You can pay with Credit/Debit Card, Online banking, e-wallet.
4. After you done your payment, your Number plate for sale ads will be published immediately.

How to buy a number plate advertised from Motor Trader?
Please take note that you can only put the number plate in an unregistered(New or Recon) car or bike.
1. Click contact button to directly negotiable with the seller. The seller could be a private owner, broker or a number plate seller company.
2. Visit seller office or video call with the seller. Make sure seller is genuine. The number plate could be registered under a car or motorcycle. Please request to see the geran and make sure it is under the seller name.
3. When you are confidient the seller is genuine and wish to proceed with purchase. Provide your detail and make a deposit or full payment to seller. If you are buying from a company. Make sure you only make payment to company name and not the sales person and make sure to get the receipt.
4. Once seller received full payment, seller will thumbprint the motorcycle(with the number plate) ownership to you. This process might take few days, because seller need to send the motorcycle for JPJ inspection to get B2 form before they can thumbprint to you. Please check with seller how much time they need.
Seller can not direcly register the number plate to your new vehicle. According the Malaysia JPJ law, Both the old and new vehicles must be owned by the same person to do the number plate interchange. Once seller done the half way thumbprint. Buyer(you) can then do interchange of the number plate to the new vehicle. and then another(running number) number plate to the motorcycle.(exchange number plate).
5. Depend on your deal with the seller, buyer(you) might need to thumbprint the motorcycle ownership back to the seller. If buyer(you) are only buying the number plate.(not including the motorcycle).
What are the steps to do number plate interchange at JPJ?
Here are the steps to transfer a vehicle registration number from one vehicle to another in Malaysia, according to the JPJ Portal 1:
- The registered owner or a representative can apply for the transfer of the registration number from the old vehicle to the new vehicle.
- Both the old and new vehicles must be owned by the same person.
- The new vehicle must not have been registered before.
- The old vehicle must undergo a PUSPAKOM inspection to determine its identity. For new cars, inspection is not needed except for imported cars.
- The old vehicle must not be blacklisted by JPJ or PDRM.
- Payment for all chargeable fees must be made.
Here are the documents required for the transfer process 1:
For the new vehicle:
- 2 copies of eDaftar Checklist Form.
- 2 electronic printed copies of Form JPJ K1.
- Identification document of applicant.
- Inspection Report PUSPAKOM (B2) for imported vehicles or vehicles for the handicapped.
- Copy of valid Green Diesel Vehicle Approval Certificate (SIRIM) (for green diesel vehicle).
- K1 Custom Form (for imported vehicles).
- Original and copy of Import License (AP) (for imported vehicles).
- Result letter/form on reserved vehicle registration number (if applicable).
- Payment for all chargeable fees.
For the old vehicle:
- 2 copies of FORM JPJ K1E.
- 2 copies of FORM JPJ K1A.
- Identification document of applicant.
- Original Vehicle Registration Endorsement (JPJK2).
- Inspection Report PUSPAKOM (B2) or B5.
- Endorsement letter from Customs (for Labuan and Langkawi).
- Original owner’s identification document or representative’s identification document (if representative is present).
